Kolkata day 1

After a short international flight, we are here in Kolkata on phase 2 of the journey.

Already I have percieved similarities and differences with Bangladesh and India. There is still the intensity but not quite the chaos.

Maybe as there’s more English displayed and spoken…? but noticeably more women around walking around, a more subtle freedom than seen in Dhaka.

After a meal with others, we walked home and on the way we saw a family with two young children (not too dissimilar from my two) and they were asleep on the pavement on cardboard sheets under a blanket while the noise from a busy street and Kolkata life surrounded them.

It was a hard to walk by and not feel helpless, sad, angry and heartbroken. How does one respond…..?

Tomorrow off to freeset , a glimmer of hope amongst the afflicted.
